156 problem after cam belt change!!
Been searching the forums and now my head is battered!!
Had the cam belt and tensioners changed a couple of days ago on my 156 1.6 TS. All seemed ok until drove home on motorway last night.
At 2800rpm, a ticking noise can be heard and hesitates under acceleration, rides through the roughness at 4500rpm. Didnt replace the variator as the 'diesel' noise vanishes soon after start up. Went for a trundle before going to work today and held the revs at 3000rpm in 2nd gear and the ECU light flashed a couple of times and the engine was 'ticking'.
Took it back to local garage and spoke to mechanic that replaced the belt and he's going to hook up to diagnostics on Tuesday morning, said all was nice and tight when belt changed.
Im no mechanic, but to me, would think the timing is slightly out? Or belt too tight? Or tensioners not sat correctly? Sounds perfect at idle and up to 2800rpm. Im now scared to drive like its been stolen!!
Any advice appreciated before it goes back on Tuesday
