Cam Belt gone - worth fixing?
My 156 Selespeed Veloce broke down today. The breakdown guy took me to the closest garage where the guy reckoned it was (probably) the cam belt gone. He came to this conclusion after listening to the engine turnover and looking in the oil.
Obviously, he wasn't going to give a full quote until I gave the go ahead to have a closer look but he reckoned if the belt had broken, rather than it had simply come off, and depending on whether/how much damage had been done, I'm looking at nearly £1,000 to fix.
So, is this fair? where could give me a better price (I live in South East London)? If this is fair, is it worth even doing given the car is a 03 plate, has done 60K, has fair/poor body work (although has a good interior)?
All thoughts/suggestions gratefully received!
