Valve Stem Seals

I have an 2.0 147 that has done 51k miles on a 53 plate, it has recently started blowing blue smoke on start up, I am aware that this is more than likely the valve stem seals, my question is what sort of cost am I looking at to get this issue sorted.

Sorry if this is a repeat question (which it probably is).

Thanks in advance.

I was going to say try Smaky on the other alfa forum, but then i noticed you are in kent.
I have heard stem seals are a common failure on twinsparks that consume lots of oil, my local garage were
replacing valve stem seals on a twinspark on one of their customers cars last time i was there.
They removed the head, replaced defective parts and refitted using new gaskets and new cam belt.
Top up of fluids and had the car fixed in half a day, sorry don't know the cost but my local garage charge
35 per hour labour.
Not a big job for someone with a little mechanical knowledge and common sense.

hi all, vaguely remember a way to change the stems seals without taking the head off.
get the piston to tdc,you then push suitable rope into the combustion chamber, this will stop the valve you are about to work on from moving downwards, then with the cams etc removed, with a forked lever and suitable pivot point you can compress the spring to remove collet etc to get to the seal,we used this method on a mates xr3 back in the distant 80's,dont know if it would work on the alfa, might be worth a shot, considering the amount of labour ,new gaskets etc to remove the head, cheer all.

You'd be looking at a bill of at least 500 if the head has to come off.
