Day four in the big gearbox house. After several hours, a lot of swearing, several bruises, the odd cut, a purple fingernail the gearbox is attached to the car again. Most of the suspension is back on, the subframe bolts are in place awaiting tightening and the linkages are connected. There are some bits and pieces to refit and reconnect and it might just be job done.
Based on my experience, I would like to offer some advice; If you need to remove the gearbox on your 156, don't. Pay someone else, sell it, scrap it, burn it, park it in the garden as an art exhibit but do not attempt this at home. I've been playing with cars for over 20 years but this is the biggest dirtiest ******* of a job I've ever done.
