Please read: ABS VDC Failure
I'm aware that many other members of this forum have experienced ABS / VDC failure warnings and ascribe it to a number of potential factors. Many simply treat it as an Alfa trait and ignore it - my advice is DON'T!!!
I had the error today while driving to work - the typical ABS followed immediately by the VDC error warnings and the lights staying on in the dash. I wasn't too concerned until a couple of cars almost ploughed into the back of me on separate occasions as I braked at motorway speeds to slow for queues ahead.
When the warnings are on, it means that when you depress the brake pedal, the brake lights do not come on i.e. your red stop lights do not grow brighter to tell other drivers that you are braking. Given the number of people who tailgate others, this is a recipe for a high speed rear ending so be warned.
I have replaced the brake switch for the grand sum of £8.16 so hopefully this will resolve the problem.
