Coin Tray for Ipod?
I've had my GT for a few months now and I fitted an Ipod interface and drawer. The only thing is it is so fiddley to put the Ipod into the rubber mat so that it doesnt float around inside the 'drawer'. Anyway, after reading a few threads it turns out that the Ipod nano 3rd generation (fat screen) actually fits inside the coin tray, so I'm now on a mission to sort this out.
Luckily I managed to find a very nice ipod nano 3rd gen for not much to replace my now ancient iPod mini.
First thing - I don't like the 'cup holder' so I'm going to take that out & fit another coin tray on the right hand side. I've removed the drinks holder by easing the two tabs on the top of the assembly and sliding the cup holder right out. The spring just fell out (which I was a little concerned about refitting) I've taken the front off it because I need to use the 'Puma' coloured front rather than the silver of the donor assembly. Even if you are using one with the same colour front, you'll need to take it off because they are 'handed'
Once I've got the donor drawer, the ipod lead will slot into the vacant slot on the side of the drawer (so the slack moves in and out from behind the unit) and I may have to make a slot in the front to accommodate the plug/wire, but we'll have to see how that works when the unit arrives.
Big advantage of this set up is that the ipod will come to me, instead of me scraping my knuckles ferreting around in a tiny slot for my ipod.
I'll post some piccies when it's done!
