Alfa GT Diesel...preventative maintenance?

Good evening all,

joined the board a while ago but "the current economic climate" put a hold on plans to buy a GT for a while but I'm back day I'll get my name on one

any who been having a look through the boards to refresh my memory of the common problems that afflict this car and it got me many of them can be avoided by preventative maintenance? I don't mind having a bit of a tinker with any car I own and I'm lucky enough to have access to a workshop at work (admittedly its kitted out for HGV trailers but most of its useful!)

So does anyone have any preventative tips to share? So far I've gathered:

1) Lube door lock assemblies to try and avoid broken hinges
2) Clean and lube bonnet catches (seen a few 156 pics!)
3) Change the cam belt and water pump early (is 60k OK or would folks budget on 36k like the petrol versions?)

I'm sure theres plenty I've missed but I'm hoping you knowledgeable folk will fill in the gaps.
I know any car I buy wont be fault free (I've never owned a car that is!)

3) 60k is what most of the Indi's now suggest (mine will need doing for the second time in 10K) - if I was to slip to 36K it would get done every 18 months

60k is spot on, there are a few reported cambelt failures around this milage, mine included, mind you the JTD has one of the best engines to cope with it IMHO

60k is fine, as long as you remember that's 60k or 4 years, whichever comes first. The oldest GTs are coming up for seven years old now, and I've seen some with as little as 20k on them - and still on the original cambelt.
