Don't be put off. I drove a BMW and before that an Audi, both company cars (i.e. new), then when I left the company I bought my 55-reg GT JTD. Do all the usual checks on history (preferably buy a one-owner car, definitely make sure it has a full history, and get a good warranty for peace of mind). Yes, there will be niggles (enthusiasts call them quirks) but they are part of the charm and character of the car. This is a very high-traffic group of forums, and that is great if you come to need advice on your car, somebody is sure to help, but the sheer volume of traffic means that you can believe these cars are more troubling than they really are. Mine has given me no more problems than the German cars. Granted, I spend more time fettling it - but that's because I like it so much!
