just done the dreaded door handle (gt)
decided to do it today as the weather was warm and dry.....till the end ! lol
i bought a door handle from a bloke breaking a 147 on ebay (147 + gt same handle) for the reasonable price of £20 posted
i decieded that i was just going to change the hinge so lubed the new one up really good and made sure it was free moving
i used a guide that posted on here and hoped to do it with window in but ..........fat hands ment no chance
its not such a biggy taking it out.......sit in the car and undo the nuts/bolt with window fully up, to get the back ones i just tilted the seat forward....lits out easy, didnt expect it to be so easy !
then squeezing a fat hand into the door i manged to locate a ratchet spanner on the nut for the hinge.......10mm ratchet makes it much easier
one nut is off there was just enough room for me to get my little ratchet and xhead screw bit between the handle and the door to undo the screw that holds hinge to handle
on inspection the hinge fails due to lack of lube.....what was left was a bugger to move, so i recon a regular soak with wd40 and the straw is in order......also noticed the pin had moved down, assume this is due to it seasing and winding its way out a bit as u use the handle.
i got the window lined up first time......luck or judgement im not sure...loosely fastend nuts then shut the door and tighted them with door closed and window up, checked from outside and then sat back in to nip them up
so job done.........not that bad.........happy i did it that way.......do they not just sell the hing????
oh and yup it rained as i was putting door panel on :-) had to didnt it..........its fine again now
