Re: Engine cleaning, any advise
I agree you should never steam the engine given the electronics.
I had a similar issue with my GTA. I purchased the car pre-owned with pretty low mileage about 8 weeks ago. Although the car is mechanically sound and wonderful in every way the engine bay was not what it shoud have been. Salt deposits, tired chrome, dirt, grime etc. I brought the car to Autodelta for other work, exhaust tailbox, remap etc. and asked Jano and his boys to restore the engine bay. This entailed removing parts of the engine, sand blasting them, re-painting and re-installation. While this was done the rest of the engine was cleaned by hand. The result was essentially a total restore to new. Thus giving me the opportunity now to keep after the engine bay properly.
And it gave me great pride to show at the just past National Alfa Day. (I'll post pics soon)
Its certainly not the cheapest way to go but if money's not a big issue its the best way, I think, to really restore the engine bay to a level of quality you'd want to achieve.
