dash lights dimmer (GT)

OK, I've done a search for this one and there's not a word to be found on it, so here goes...

I usually run my dash/centre console lights on maximum brightness, but occasionally I'll turn on the lights and the displays on the climate control appear to be much dimmer than the rest of the dashboard (like it's on minimum brightness).

Pressing the dimming (minus) button a couple of times usually results in the display 'catching up' with the rest of the dash and I can then set them all back to maximum.

Is this just one of those 'things the GT does' or is my car exhibiting a unique foible? I'm not particularly worried about it, but I suspect it is related to a hangover from the electrical strangeness the car developed when the last battery was failing and was changed.

Thank you for the tip as my GT did this at the weekend! I can confirm that turning down the dimmer settings then turning them back up sorted it (for how long, though..?)
