You say 'we could repair it' - where are you based? and is the proper top & bottom repair, including the shells, the same as buying all the parts, as you mentioned?

This £850 repair consists of a reconditioned cylinder head, so new stem seals, valves re-lapped in, pressure test & skim, not just a 2nd hand head skimmed. It is fitted with a new head gasket set, new timing belt, tensioner, idler & balance belt. We remove the sump and change the big end bearings also, these sometimes get flat-spotted when the pistons & valves hit so are absolutely necessary to change. That cylinder head for sale on our ebay auction was bought from us, but fitted by the customer. He didn't change the shells and about a week later he sold us the car for salvage as the bottom end started knocking. We did try and tell him, but "I've done repaired loads of engines with snapped belts and never touched the bottom end". Also fresh oil & coolant is used.
The only thing we don't include for £850 is a new variator, but there is one fitted on that cylinder head on the ebay listing. A new variator if you need one is something like £100 or so, otherwise we would fit the old one off your old cylinder head.
