Guys, thanks for your good wishes.
Artermis: I won't miss having to defrost the door window to allow the door to close... or when you use the "Hi" demist function the fan slows down before the screen is cleared and I have to turn it back up manually... or that in cold weather the handbrake release button is slow to extend out causing the tooth to slip off the rachet!
The driving experience was great but there are aspects of ownership that let it down.
GTBlackline: I'll try to hide your post from Mrs R as she owns a Celica and adore's it. By comparison with the GT it is also a great driver's car. In fact I'd say it has the edge on the GT for seating and pedal position if only it (or any other car for that matter) had the Alfa seats. Both GT and Celica are 04 plates with similar miles. In all that time the only things replaced on the Celica have been service parts. No suspension bushes, clutch, wheel bearings, water pump, no annoying rattles or squeaks (from the rear hatch), no faulty MAF sensor....
I already have a car with the potential to frustrate in the form of the MGF! It has never let me down yet but there is always the naging doubt that the head gasket might fail sometime - the achillies heel of the O series engine.
When considering a replacement for the Alfa the two cars at the top of the list were... German, the A5 or Passat CC. The A5 was overpriced for what is essentially a 2 door A4 and the CC lacked versatility or spec. As we already own a 2 door sports coupe and a two seater convertible, in the end, I went for something completely different in the form of a Kuga.
If I live to regret leaving the Alfisti I will eat humble pie and let you know!
