Ripped Off??? Changed bearing, and charged for tracking

My mate has just had his front bearing chnaged at an Alfa Dealer, and they charged his for checking his tracking (which was ok), as they said it would be out if they changed the bearing. I would have helped him change it, but it was one of thoses things. I have changed a couple of front bearing, and can't see how the tracking would be out. Am i wrong, or has my friend paid £20 for nothing?

For £20 he's got the reassurance that there isn't a tracking problem. Replacing the bearing will, I think, have required partial dismantling of the front suspension, so a tracking check is a wise precaution.

At £20 it was a bargain - costs here vary from £35 to £50 - if it was out and they corrected it for £20 then he will save more in the long term with slower wearing tyres etc.

I think the rule is to check tracking every time you do repairs to the suspension(afaik reason being is broken suspension parts would affect it) that is really needed or not I cannot say...

Sounds fair enough to me to be honest. I think I'd be quite annoyed if they changed a wheel bearing and didn't check the tracking after!

id say they have to do it so u cant go back later and complain that your tyres are worn on the edge, it makes sense that they would do that, but its only a few mins to check it and u could assume it would be in with the job and only charge if it needed doing !

Amazing isn't it. A main dealer does the job properly and charged less than the going rate and someone thinks it is a rip off...
