156 JTD 20V - another one on the list
After a couple of months lurking and learning I've done the deal and finally joined the ranks of Alfa ownership. I've always fancied owning an Alfa since the days of the AlfaSud (yep, I'm not that young). I've always maintained and repaired my own cars (and motorbikes) so will be a forum regular!
The car I've got seems to be a good one. Its a 1995 face lift Lusso with the grand sum of 109,000 miles. Looks and drives fabulously apart from a slightly rough tickover and some slight knocking and 'looseness' in the back end. There are no fault codes logged and all the electrics etc seem to work perfectly so an excellent advertisement for how well these cars can last if looked after. The wife is really impressed just how much car you can get for such a (relatively) small amount of money and she has yet to find out just how quick it is! There is a full service history plus loads of receipts and it surprisingly appears its still on its original clutch and driveshafts. There is no transmission noise/roughness and the clutch is lovely and light, doesn't slip and bites half way up so it appears that the extensive motorway miles have been kind to it. The only concern is that it also seems to be on its original water pump though belt and pulleys were changed at 60,000. Thus, a belt/water pump/idler change is on the cards as soon as the weather improves. I think I'll also be getting to know the suspension given how many sets of of wishbones its had in its life!
So far so good.........
