Cheers both. His computer suggested those things, I was pretty amazed at how comprehensive it was. Said that my exact symptoms could be caused by low oil level. It was fine, but was amazed at how his software had so many idiosyncracities programmed in.
The whole experience made me realise how cars have moved on (and it's a seven year old car). The principals remain the same; you need oxygen, petrol and a spark. However, there are a thousand reasons that the car will not let you have any one of them.
As I've said before, I'm really worried about the asr thing, makes me think something's gone seriously foobar with the ecu. I shall update.
