How can there be such a difference and do some insurance companies have a loading on the Gt due to it being a coupe? ......
My previous car was a Rover 25, which I insured with Eagle Star. No problems with the company when I was driving the Rover, so I though I would just ring them up to change the policy over to the 156.
I was paying £375pa for the Rover, and they quoted me £744pa for the 156. Almost double!!!
Ok, I thought, I'm going from a Gp6 car to a Gp16, so maybe that is not so unreasonable. Then, I got some on-line quotes and they were consistently around £500pa.
So I went back to the Eagle Star web-site, got an on-line quote of £484pa, called their Customer Services, quoted my current policy number, and they honoured the on-line quote.
For some reason, they will shaft you if you are an existing customer who has been with them for years, but will bend over backwards if you are a new customer with no history with them.
Anyway, it is worth calling for a quote as a new customer.
(btw, I'm 36, full no-claims, 3 points, living on the south coast)
