147 Selespeed 2.0ts 2003, 110k miles
Hi all. Have been looking through the forum since we got the old girl back in Oct.
We got juddering gear shifts in Dec, Ellesmere port Alfa (lovely folks!) put her right after hooking her up to their machine, and resetting things. Nothing really wrong, she was just having a moment!!
At the weekend the motor control system light came on, the juddering gears came back but she also started drinking oil big time and smoking like a trooper.
Have taken her to a garage but on the way the oil low pressure warning came on and the gears wouldnt downshift automatically but would manually, when she was in first she wanted to move-off without acceleration, city mode just wouldn't play at all and she stalled
I could only get the car in first from neutral on a couple of occasions by turning the engine off and the white smoke coming from the exhaust since the motor control system failure light came on was real bad. Just like the choke was on all the time (but not plooms like when a turbo goes).
Have been told the engine is knackered but could be rebuilt for £900 all in. The compression readings today were 0,260,180,90. Does the diagnosis seem right? Am i better getting a rebuild or a used engine?
Just wondering if you think the gearbox/clutch is knackered too as no codes have come up for this but the lambda sensor code is being displayed on diags.
Are the gearbox problems likely to be caused by the engine/lambda sensor or am i looking at clutch/gearbox too?
Thanks in advance of any advice you can give (with the exception of well you did buy a sillyspeed!
