New 156 Owner
I have just become the owner of a 2001 156 Sportwagon. She's only a 1.8TS, but I swapped her for a Subary Legacy which was costing a fortune in fuel!
Like most of the threads I've read, she's got a few things wrong. First one being what appears to be (from reading on here) the n/s drop link needs doing. Knocking noise when going over small bumps etc, can feel the wheel moving when rocking it by hand. Is this a difficult job to do? Do you need to get it on a ramp?
Other issues are just trivial ones. Fuel guage is massively inaccurate. Depending on how you park, you can gain or lose 1/4 of a tank, but I guess this is a just a feature... Sometimes the boot unlock button on the key locks the car again instead of opening the boot. Oh, and the rear windscreen wiper only barely touches the rear screen. Upon inspection, the spring that should keep it tight is rusty and dodgy looking. Also, the drivers side inside door handle spring is broken too. Once resulted in the door coming open when going round a left hand corner... Guess the Italians can't make springs very well.
And what's with the complete lack of places to put anything?
Aside from these though, love the car. Drives well, looks nice, and is a lot more economical than the Scoob I had before, so I'm happy. All the things that need doing should be mere pounds to fix, and hopefully she'll carry on going for a few years!
