Hesitation woes, advice please....

Hi all,

Here's a brief history, My 04 156 1.9JTDm-jet 16v was brought back in June where before sale the garage fitted a new clutch as part of the service.

In September whilst on a long journey my Bella started to pop out of 5Th gear under load so I had her towed back to my indie where after inspection found little g.box oil and the upper bung left off g.box allowing water to top up to 2 litres. Oil drained and replaced and all seemed well for about 2 months.

Just before Christmas car started to back off around 1800 rpm in 2ND gear and you can feel what sounds to me like an induction issue where when the car "backs off" you can hear a whooshing sound in 3 short bursts. Knowing something was wrong I tried to manipulate the fault and on a small incline I pushed her under load in 4Th up to around 4000rpm where I got MCSF on the dash with limp mode, so read the fault - over-boost pressure fail(car is mapped BTW) cleared down, test drove no fault. Spoke to the guy who mapped the guy who suggested cleaning the egr valve to which I did so. The egr valve was caked in soot as to the throttle body and also found a large split in the top intercooler hose( I have replaced) so thought this might be the cause of the boost failure.

After cleaning the egr my car is running a lot cleaner, far less black smoke in fact none now where as before if I drove her in a spirited fashion the rear end end would chuck out a thick wall of smoke. I've also cleaned the map sensor.

Still the hesitation persists especially at low revs/acceleration, if I put my foot down I can drive though it but when in higher gears 4Th/5Th/6Th the front end wobbles, so I now thinking its either a turbo issue(but all the power is there so doubt this) dual mass fly wheel (I bloody well hope not) or drive shaft, or bearing issue???

Took her back into my indie yesterday who drained gearbox oil again which was like syrup due to the last remains of the contamination, topped up and added Wynn's gearbox oil treatment, But she's still running rough with no known faults.

Any advice ideas will be very much appreciated,

Regards Paul.

Yep, hose off the turbo - similar thing happened to my 1.9 Blackline. Neil Smith sussed it.

Hi guys, thanks for the advice. I have already checked the bottom hose and had a good nose around the turbo. Bottom hose seems fine although I'm yet to check it with it running and someone revving her up, so will be doing that tomorrow. Turbo as small oil seepage around hose connection but nothing out of the ordinary.

It does feel like an induction blockage pre-turbo or just as the turbo comes in, just bloody stumped by the top end vibration though.

The hestitation was a combination of N/S driveshaft on the way out and the EGR valve stuck in the closed position, replaced both and all is well (touches wood).
