147 Rear View Mirror Mount

Long story but I knocked my rear view mirror off my 147 windscreen whilst cleaning the windscreen recently.

There is a small almost triangular piece of metal or plastic that is bonded onto the windscreen that the rear view mirror hangs off and I have lost this. Put it in my pocket to go and get a sticky pad for it and lost it on the way !!!

Went to the local Alfa dealer who say the only way to get one is to have a new windscreen fitted becuase they are supplied bonded onto the windscreen and are not supplied separately.

Anyone any idea where I could get one ? Perhaps a busted 147 windscreen lying around where it is still attached ?

Any help appreciated

The little thing seems to be called a button. One from a breakers is the best source or maybe a place like Autolusso who do sell larger used items on ebay.

Sticky pads don't work. You need Loctite 319 which can also be bought specifically packaged for rear view mirror fixings. Leave this a few days to cure, rather than what it says on the package instructions.

We've knocked the interior mirror of a couple of times and used the kit from Halford to replace it (could have been the Loctite one). Sticky pads just aren't strong enough.

It has a small piece of mesh material that you cut to the shape of the button. You then soak this with the adhesive they supply then stick the "button" using this to the screen. I've left mine overnight a couple of time to make sure it bonds but it can take longer if it's really cold. The mirror then slides down on the "button" and locks in place with a spring-loaded ballbearing.

If you're really stuck try Autolusso .. they seem to come off reasonable easily ... just suggest that one of the guys gets their wife or girlfriend to get out of the car with a large handbag or umbrella ... worked for us twice!
