Smell when using the de-mist button

Hi all,

I have a quick question.

When I get into the car, because of the cold temperature outside and my body's temperature in the car, the windscreen is getting misty.

So I use the de-mist button (if that's how it's called) to get the windscreen cleared.

While the car is cold, this really bad smells comes out (like dog's poo). When the car is warmed up the smell is not there at all.

Any ideas what it is? I am driving a GT 1.9 JTDm, 2007 model.

Has the pollen filter been changed? (Does it have one?)

I only say this because I was surfing for answers to why MrsJim's Picasso's aircon blower had started to work only on the top setting then that had failed (it's a resistor/transistor regulator thingy) but all the experts say a blocked pollen filter is a major contributor to it failing and smelling too.

I'm probably totally wrong, but there you go, it is a suggestion.

not sure if it will have one although you can check under the scuttle panel that shroud the windscreen wipers to see if you have rotten leaves and stuff caught up in there. the passenger side (on UK vehicles) is where the outside air intake is for the fan motor, so take a look under there see what happens.
