For some time now ive had a feeling my clutch was on its way out on my 156 2.0Jts, The car is now booked into Red Motori on tuesday for a new clutch. However, since i booked it in im now in doubt that the clutch has gone and think it could be something else. Obviously when i take it to them they will make their own diagnosis but i would like to get an idea before i go.
So the symptoms are......
There is not a great deal of travel on the pedal from the biting point to the final engagement of the clutch
The biting point seems to of got higher since ive owned the car.
Engaging reverse gear is often very clunky and on occasion wont engage.
When driving the car from cold its very jumpy, almost as if its kangaroo hopping down the road due to a lack of feeling in the pedal.
Things which have made me doubt a clutch problem........
The car has only covered 66,000 miles
I CAN NOT make the clutch slip at all! Ive tried everything, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gear up hill at different speeds, carrying loads....it just simply wont slip (not that im complaining of course)
I went for a drive yesterday and it seemed a lot better than normal...still not perfect but was nice to drive for a change!
Im beginning to think it could be a master/slave cylinder at fault? Air in the system? Im not sure at all really, Havnt done much clutch work in my time but of the ones i have done its always had more severe symptoms (slipping) and would not be better to drive on some days than others.
There is no fluid leaking from anywhere and the resovior is as full now as it was when i bought the car 7000miles ago
