Wheel hubs & bolts

Found out a strange thing when I took one of the rear wheels off when checking the brakes. I looked the wheel hub a bit closer and noticed that the threaded section of the wheel hub where the wheel bolt is fastened has only about 6 threads (I didn't count them but I'd say that definitely no more than 6, the threaded part was short) and then the hole continues further without any more threads. I started wondering can this be right, as several sources mention that a 12mm bolt with 1.25 pitch thread should have at least 8 threads in order to be safely attached?
