Help 156 2.4 Fuel Consumption / Aux Belt

My SW has really starting to indicate strange fuel consumption figures on the display. 11 mpg when trickling along in traffic in first, it jumped to 22 then stayed there even at 30 mph in 3rd.

Does the 2.4 have "cold start" like a petrol when the fuel in enriched when cold? It runs OK but smokes when cold when I accelerate - not booting it, just keeping up with the traffic. The last time I ran a diagnostic check it registered a problem with the air quality - it has a K&N replacement.

Also what is the solution when the auxiliary belt squeaks? It stops when sprayed using AG Vinyl care (I know, I know!).

Any thoughts?
