Just test-drove an Alfa GT.
Finally went for a spin in an Alfa GT. It looks fantastic, and drives just as well. It was the first time I'd actually seen one in the flesh and it made me want to order one immediately. I resisted the temptation though - I'm due to win the lottery this weekend so I'll be ordering next week.
The one I test drove was the 2 litre petrol, but the salesman said nearly everyone who'd ordered one had opted for the 1.9 diesel. He let me drive his own 1.9 diesel 156 as it has the same engine as the diesel GT, and I must say I was mightily impressed. If I WAS to order, it'd be the diesel. Performance seemed as good as my 2 litre TS 156, and for the decent fuel economy it'd be worth living with that extra diesel noise at idle.
The car I drove was metallic silver - I don't think this is the ideal colour for this car, although I can't put my finger on why. I reckon a darker colour would be better, like the one on the TV ad.
I was able to quickly find a really comfortable driving position, and felt right at home. It has a decent sized boot too, and rear legroom was pretty good (although headroom restricted for adults). AND the aircon actually works! The aircon in my 156 is pathetic by comparison.
In summary - that's my next car! It's blown away my other contender - the Mazda RX8 on running costs alone.
Anyone got any early GT experiences/problems/concerns to report?
