Idea suspension clunking sound and selespeed serice question

Hi all,

I'm taking my 156 selespeed '02 in for a service in a few weeks, and wonderd about a couple of things :

- what is the normal selespeed service. Do they check it, and do a calibration ? Is there anything to ask for specifically ?

- the front suspension is making a clunking sound occassionally after going over speed bumps. It sounds like a spring binding up then releasing quickly, but why would that happen. Bushes worn or something ? its only 15000miles so thats a bit unlikely isn't it ? Anybody experienced this before, its a real loud mechanical / springy sort of sound. Is there anything I can check myself on this before taking it in. The car is not lowered but have had a grounding problem a few times before I learnt to slow down a LOT over speedbumps.

hope someone out there can help,

Re: suspension clunking sound and selespeed serice question

They should run a service/end-of-line calibration on the Selespeed after the service.
(Remembering to save the settings at the end.)
And obviously top up the Selespeed fluid.

Re: suspension clunking sound and selespeed serice question

That sound could be coming from the front anti-roll bar drop links.

For some reason these wear out very quickly but luckily they are cheap to replace.

You could check them by disconnecting one end from either the anti-roll bar or the suspension. Disconnect both sides and tie them out the way then try going over the same speed bumps.

Obviously the handling well be affected while they are disconnected but at least you will be able to help locate the problem.
