Sidelight 156 Tip

Just breezed through a sidelight bulb replacement although I wasn't looking forward to it.

Tip is to switch on the main beams, you then have illumination inside the unit and you can see what you're doing without having to mess with mirror and torch. With the juice still on the new sidelight lights up its own way back into place.

This may be teaching Grandmother etc. but I thought it was worth passing on.

On the same topic I used a wonderful tool, an oil filter wrench from Machine mart, to start to undo the back cover of the main beam. This thing has three "legs", after locating on the end of the filter or headlanp cover, which adjust themselves when you turn it either for loosening or tightening. It has a 1/2" or a 3/8" drive and gets into the confined space for the 156 2.4JTD oilfilter a treat.

I just use a torch or my LED inspection lamp on the outside to show up the hole for the side light. Changed both my bulbs last week in about 15 mins .. 5 of that was getting the cover off the back of the o/s light unit! Couldn't find a mirror and managed without. You really need one though for the main/dip beam bulbs to get the clip back on.

I have one of those filter wrenches and agree it's really useful. You can only get the filter off my son's Clio with one .. which is why is was purchased but I've used it on the TS. I'd be careful about using it to tighten as you can overtighten them and damage the seals.

cheers, Gary
