156 1.8 TS Veloce Clutch Replacement
Been searching the site (and google), but I don't seem too be able to find a HOWTO to change a clutch on a 2004 facelift 156 1.8TS.
I've just bought this car from a car dealer, and in between the test drive, it's MOT and being delivered, the clutch is now slipping and is difficult to select gears.
The extent of the slipping is if you go from 3rd to 4th instead of 2nd, initially the engine struggles as it should, and with a bit of gas, it slips and revs up. Same happens if you push the gas in 2nd or 3rd, starts accelerating like a car should, but then revs fly up. I think this leave little doubt that this is the clutch.
As it is New Year's day, and the dealer isn't open (first time I've driven it since the test drive before xmas down to insurance reasons), but hopefully he will do the right thing and take the car in and sort it.
However, if not and all else fails, I have found a clutch kit (gen Alfa parts) from shop4parts for £115+VAT, which doesn't seem to be too bad a price if you compare it to alfaworkshop.
I could do the clutch myself, but I'd rather read a HOWTO and know what specific bits I need beforehand (sensible), or I could do with knowing what the official book time is, so I know what to expect if I take it to a garage to be done.
If anybody has any advice on the legal side of sorting this out from the dealer I'd be grateful. If he won't rectify it immediately, I will need to get it done and try and take it from there with him.
Hopefully it won't come to that, but forewarned is forearmed, so to speak!
New to this Alfa thing, so any hints, tips, recommendations and pointers are welcome by PM or post.
Thank you all for reading this!
PS - Car has only done 43k, but discovered that the previous owner was an old lady, and I've heard that older drivers are more likely to rest their foot on the clutch causing premature wear.
