Anyway. I have a (nearly) one year old 147 Selespeed and agree with the few negatives about 1st and 2nd gear changes in traffic and city mode is hardly worth mentioning. Though somehow when going slowly it manages to upshift (between 2nd and 3rd) better than some 'manual' changes you might make yourself at low revs.
My only other negatives are my clutch speed sensor went quite early but was diagnosed immediately by the dealer and replaced unser warrenty. With this fault it kept going into 'safe mode' and would not change to higher gears and would only rev to 4000 revs. Which it is meant to.
In favour of clutches. The one time I would love to have a clutch again is when in traffic on steep hills. I dont like holding the Selespeed on the 'bite' as it feels 'strained' and after a while starts to 'creep' so I tend to have to use the handbreak, stop, engage gear and go again if you see what I mean. But this is a rare thing again to be stuck in traffic on a steep hill. Trying to force the car into first gear with 1000 revs still left on the counter tends to set the gearbox in an unready state and it lurches as you set off the other choice is to leave it in second and pull off. But if you try to pull away in second with no revs the car will simply groan at the strain this is not a fault of Selespeed just the fact that the Alfa twinsparks need revs to work.
Even with these annoyances it is in my opinion still better than having to make hundresds of clutch movements which is the main reason I went for a Selespeed. The fact that when you get going it is also immense fun and I agree with the other chap, once you are used to it you will never tire of it. Downshifting two gears as you approach an Island just gives a great roar as it blips the throttle and with the high revs you have it just pulls away like a dream and all for two clicks of a paddle. I have to get an AD remap cause apprently Selespeed gets even better.
Appreantly with the remap you can also pull away in second gear with less revs on the clock so that should cure my other gripe.
Ok Anti-Selespeeders flame me. You aint got nothing
