147 selespeed troubles

Hi all,

Just wanted to get some advice regarding some noises that are eminating from my gearbox. Firstly its a 2003 147 selespeed purchased from new. By the way this my first major problem I have had.

There is a whirring noise coming from the left side of the gearbox when in 1st, 2nd or third gear. 4th and 5th, the noise disapears. There was some minor metal fillings in the oil when dropped at my mechanics. The noise is getting louder the more I drive it.

I took it to my alfa dealer, he susgests that it could be an input shaft bearing or a differential bearing. My mechanic disagrees and thinks it more than likely roller bearings.

The car has done alot of killometers all of them enjoyed emensily by myself!

Has anyone got any ideas or had similar problems?

Sure-fire test for input shaft bearing is to remove the speed sensor from the front of the box. If it shows wear, the bearing is probably fubar....
