147 1.9 MultiJet Diesel - Turbo Over Boosting ?
I have just had the dreaded Engine Management System Failure light and warning for the second time on my 147, and it has proved again (according to the computer) to be the turbo overboosting.
Once it has happened, the engine runs as if my 1.9 has been swapped for a fiat 500 engine. Until you stop and restart the engine when, with the exception of the EMFS light staying on the car runs fine again.
My mechanic has explained it as a build up of carbon on the turbo fan causing it to slow or stick and the EMS cuts out. His fix at the moment is to put some engine cleaner in with the fuel and every now and again to run the engine flat out in second for a short distance to try and clear the carbon build up.
Anyone else had this and with the exception of a new turbo any other suggestions ?
In addition to this every now and again when cruising along, the engine gives a very short stutter like someone had rapidly switched off and on the electrics. No computer warnings etc and it is a VERY short stutter, like a quick cough. Anyone any ideas on this ?
