Frozen coolant and waterpump broken?
My usual commute this morning in my 2.0 TS, after half an hour I noticed my water temp over 90* and rising slowly. I pulled over and rad and lower water hose were cold, expansion tank and the top pipe were hot! I let it cool a bit (while I phoned Ned for advice) and slowly limped home, stopping eveytime the temp went above 90*. Near the end the lower hose finally got hot, but the rad was still cold, just before getting home (2 hours later!) the temp went back to normal and then the rad was hot.
I'm guessing my coolant was too diluted so it froze (it was -12* this am), which would surely break the impellor on start up. But now it seems like the pump is working as the rad is hot? Is there a chance the pump is still spinning? I'm going to let it cool right down, start it and see if the rad heats up immediately, if it does I'll drain some coolant put lots more anti-freeze in.
Stat is new and temp is normally very stable, belts and pump haven't been done for about 30K miles.
