Sounds Like A Diesel?

I have heard that if a 156 sounds like a diesel for a couple of seconds on start up something is knackered. What is this 'something' called and how much to replace it?

Also some of the black plastic coating on the triangle door mirror surround has come of leaving a white 'rust' effect. anyone else had this problem?

A couple of seconds is normal but if it goes on for a few minutes or permanently its the variator at fault. Try a search for this.

I guess the white rust is the aluminium oxidising. Sure someone had the same problem, rub it down and respray the surround.

once the variator starts making that noise it will only get worse. If you are due a cambelt change get it done but if it is some time off just put up with it. Or do as i did and get all the belts and variator replaced under warranty
