147 TS Spongy Brakes

This is my first post as I'm the proud owner of an '02 147 TS I picked up last Friday. It's my first Alfa and I already love it - I've always had hot-ish 106s and Clios so it's nice to be driving something that feels a bit special (Even though some inbred, CR-V driving chump drove into me on Tuesday night - minor enough damage luckily, and her insurance paying. Hope I'm not stuck with some piece-of-rubbish Astra or similar as a courtesy car over the festive period )

Anyway, I'm just wondering if standard brakes on all 1.6l 147s are a tad 'spongy'? Mine don't really seem capable of stopping tidily from motorway speeds, either. Maybe they just need some getting used to...

In any case, can anybody recommend a decent upgrade I could think about? Maybe in the way of braided hoses to start with and possibly larger discs with better pads?

I've never modified any of my cars before so any assistance would be grand.

I wouldn't say all of the Alfa's I have driven have had spongy brakes but they do need a firmer shove on the pedal top stop than many of the cars from other Marques..

They are not as heavily servoes as some.

The other day I drove the works Zafira, and the first time I touched the brakes I nearly made the ABS cut in.

Certainly the brakes on my 145 and 156 were spongy
