first steps in improving my 147 jtd - springs??

Hi, i get the usual knocking and am about to get the droplinks changed after my mechanic had a look. (he usually uses delphi). I feel that this is a good opportunity to also get lowered springs (not too much though - 30mm ok?). I hope this will improve the look and ride of the car. I don't want to spend more than necessary so am hoping 30mm srings (eibach pro?) will do the job, keep the cost down, and will avoid any additional costs.

Not sure if i'll need the alignment doing again (just got it done last week!)

Would appreciate tips/guidance before I make the decision

Thanks for reading
