Phase Sensor annoyance!!
Looking for a little help please!
I recently bought a 156 a bit too naively. I was told that the light on the dash was a service light and trustingly believed him. I decided to look in my manual and it was in fact the ignitor light. Grrr. Anyway, have had the fault read and apparently it is reading a phase sensor fault. The old owner told me cambelt was replaced 25k ago so I should have 10k left, right? (based on previous it is entirely possible that the cambelt change is a lie as paperwork is threadbare!!) Firstly, is there a way to gauge the age of a cambelt? Car is reading 98k so I'm sure it would've snapped by now if never changed?
The car runs fine. Doesn't seem lumpy or idling erratically?
Garage have said fault is showing probably due to a stretched cambelt so I need a cambelt done urgently. I only bought the car as a temporary runabout and have already spent £££'s on other issues and am selling so would rather not have to spend more £££'s (I'm already running a significant loss on asking price)...
Is there any other explanation for the phase sensor fault eg needs cleaning etc. I'd loathe to get cambelt changed and the light remains!
What surprises me, as said before, is that the car runs wonderfully!
Any input greatly appreciated!!
