My new 156 is perfect...apart from the fishy smell coming from the heater

Hi all,

It's my first post in the Alfa forum as I've just defected from the VW camp and I'm so glad I did so!

I am now the proud owner of a 2.5 V6 156 (T plate but runs like new)and it's perfect apart from a fishy smell coming into the car whenever I turn the heating on. I've had it for about a month now and I was constantly in it when my friend still owned it so I know it's never happened until I took the car out to get the tank filled up last night. It's come on really strong really quickly and I'm not too sure what it is.

Any Ideas???

Thanks

AC's been on plenty of times recently. It wasn't even a gradual creeping of fishy smell, it came on really strong really sudden. If it was the air filter wouldn't it have been a bit more gradual?

Whilst not casting aspertians on your friends good name, he hasn't played a joke on you by adding a manky mackerel somewhere without you knowing?

Hi

If that strong that suddenly with no real change in use then I would suspect a practical joke / sabotage. First thing to check is probably the pollen filter area.

All the best

It could be your breath blowing back in your face.

Thanks guys.

It's not my mate. Number one I've had it for a month with no probs. I initially borrowed it at 2 mins short notice off him whilst it was still his and he's never had the key back as I approached him about buying it off him. Plus he still hasn't had the money for it so he wouldn't risk it.

I thought about it being my breath first but after asking my missus to compare to the smell coming out of the heaters she said my breath was more of an eggy smell than fish. It's defo not the same smell as i breathed into her face 7 times to make doubly sure
