Hi. I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know what they think about my 156's problem.
My 156 has done just over 100,000 miles. It has recently had an overhall and all 8 spark plugs changed, oil changed, Variator replaced, Cambelt replaced, Engine Temperature sensor replaced.
However, the car is very sick. It's power has depleted considerably. It is like a load of horses are pulling it back, and pulling away in first is an embarressment! Not only that, but the temperature gauge is mainly showing three quarters as opposed to the 90 degrees. Seems worse with the Air Con on. The other day it decided to go all the way to the red warning light, but the coolant is fine (although it does not seem to move) and sometimes the fan kicks in and sometimes it doesn't. Additionally, the rev idling creeps up to 2000 rpm from 1000. It has only done this once, but as you can imagine, I don't know what to make of all these random events. By the way, when the fan does kick in, it is insufficient to bring the temperature down to 90 or so and remains at 3/4.
Does anyone know what this could be? I have had the power problem since I got the car before the temperature problems. Could it be a faulty ECU. Someone suggested the water pump, and another the head gasket. If I can canvas a lot of opinions I can decide whether to kiss goodbye and get another one!
It is going in on the 1st June to be looked at, so if you can reply soon that would be great.
