Wave 156 - New tyres ?

Morning all
I have a 156 Sportwagon, 2.4 JTD Veloce. The car has the egg-poacher alloys, currently wearing Firestone somethingorothers.
What's the current thinking on the best tyre ? I want something that will perform well and be relatively hard wearing, but not require a third mortgage. The car does have a tendency to eat front tyres, especially on the inside edge.
I'd be grateful for any recommendations, or otherwise, before a get my wallet out.
Thanks in advance and cheers for now
Nick H.

Can't help you with "the best tyre", Nick, but I'm perfectly happy with ContiContact Sports on our 147. Goodyear GSD3's get great reviews.

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's are top spot.......as recommended by AutoExpress. Cheap to but at www.mytyres.co.uk. Otherwise I'd be tempted by Toyo Proxes T1-S but I don't think they'd last as long!!!!

Re: 156 - New tyres ?

I'm running Michelin Pilot Sports. I have a 2.4Veloce JTD SW and drive it like Satan is chasing me. Managed a comfortable 24,000 on the front ones before I caught a raised manhole cover and took a chunk out of one sidewall. CHanged them at that stage, but they were good for another 3-4,000.

Much quieter than the Conti Contact Sports I had previously and a really sure gripper.

I recommend getting your wheel alignment checked/adjusted every 6-9,000 miles.

Get thee down to Protyre. Enfield http://www.protyre.co.uk/enfield.html is your nearest for appropriate tyres at 94ea and 20 for a pukka alignment check.

Bringing madness to an Off-road near you.

Alfaless, but mia cuore sportivo keeps beating.

Re: 156 - New tyres ?

Yeah, Pilot Sports for me for the long milage and reasonable grip, or some nice P Zeros if you don`t care how long they will last and want max grip.
