The weather we are all having to deal with at present is a nightmare for many of us. Yesterday I remembered a device from Kenlowe (the electric cooling fan people) that I had seen back in the 80's and early 90's, Hotstart...... basically, a pump with a heating element that is mains powered and plumbed into the cooling system...eg, low down on heater hose.
The idea is that one plugs the system into mains socket for 20-30 min before starting engine. Hotstart brings engine temp up to 80 degrees C therefore avoiding cold start and subsequent associated engine wear. Benefits are a warm interior, demisted windows, improved fuel consumption and full power from the off.
Has anyone used such a device and if so how did you get on with it?
I am considering such a system for my 156 jtd, God knows it seems to take forever to warm up at present.
