I have a GT Q2...
...to be honest Alfa should be ashamed of the gear knob they put in that car..made of aluminium coated plastic which gave a really poor feel and look.
Anyway mine's been replaced with a Richbrook Speed Top.
To take off the gear knob you simply have to keep rotating it anti clockwise (initially with a bit of force) as it's only screwed on but with a long thread - none of that pulling/twisting and levering with a wrench you may hear about in other cars!
The Richbrook Speed Top has parts included making it suitable for lift reverse and standard gear boxes as well as 5 or 6 speed and the reverse being in different places. However the lift reverse fitting on the Q2 it a touch too wide for it to easily slide into the Richbrook gear knob, so you'll have to grind it down inside until it fits! I used a grinding drill bit with manual sanding after. For the base part that you mount onto the gear stick, I'd recommend that you cut the long black plastic piece(found in the removable long fitting) to a length similar to the shorter part and fit it inside. That way the 3 grub screws won't just screw in and fall out when they run out of place. In addition you need to fill the black tube with some 'No Nails' or similar to keep it more secure.
In terms of styling I think the Richbrook suits the car very well. Feels so much better than the original and suits the car as if it could be an OEM part. I did consider a black leather with red stitching knob from Alfisti.net but at £78(inc shipping) thought it was way over priced and could even look over complicated when mounted. This metal Richbrook adds to the sporty feel of the Q2, suiting the improved handling, look of the car, including pedals and aluminium effect wing mirror covers.
A move at £30 I'm very happy with!
And to add you can find this gear knob in some Halfords stores....mine had it priced at £35, however price matched the Richbrook web site.
I hope my contribution here helps many GT owners as I was in a state of confusion even after searching on here.
