The reason for asking is a garage which changed my water pump 18 months ago say it doesn't need a gasket. The pump was recently found to be leaking (by a different garage) and as such I was landed with a bill for nearly £300 as it was recommended that the timining belt was changed at the same time.
The original garage say that the water pump for the 16v diesel can be sealed with mastic instead of a gasket and I'm trying to prove whether this is actually the case. So far I have spoken to two suppliers and they say the patended pumps they sell come with a paper gasket.
Have you (or anyone else) heard of a water pump for the 16v diesel which doesn't come with a gasket? If not I'm going to see if the first garage will help pay something towards the repair bill
