This and that....
This post is just some musings over the GT 1.9JTD ownership experience of late.
Three days ago the car wouldn't start. It's been getting harder and harder to crank it over in the cold mornings and I know my battery is suspect (the hydrometer had been showing white so I really should have topped it up...). Took my wife's car that day and when I got home from work I took the battery out, topped it up and charged it overnight. Hydrometer then showed black (should be green) even though the charger said it was good to go, so I bit the bullet and ordered a new battery. The standard one is a paltry 380CCA when the standard for an 027 battery (the size fitted to my GT, contrary to many of the applications lists going around) these days is 550-600CCA!
Anyhoo, when I put the battery back in the MCSF warning came on so I dug out my trusty ELM327 interface. Had it a few years so I'm disappointed to discover that it is only a v1.0 and I need v1.3 or above for fiatecuscan, but a generic scanning program did manage to reveal P0401. Yep - looks like my EGR could be doing with a clean also, so I'll be stripping that off and taking the opportunity to fit some restrictor gaskets when I refit it.
Oh, and someone tried to nick one of my side-repeaters while the car was parked outside the house. Found the offside one hanging out of the wing when I went out the car one morning this week!
