Engine precaution??

Hi all,
On my second 147 and have decided to go for a petrol this time.
Buying a 1.6TS which needs a timing belt change (its on 47k!).
My question is what is the recommended precautionary work to do whilst the belts off?
Heard that its worth doing the variator and water pump? Is this true? Anything else?
Any info would be great

Don't think all the 1.6's have a variator ..

My water pump went at around 100K miles, so it should be ok until the next one. The TS water pump is less fragile than the V6 and 1.9 diesel.

But for piece of mind, I don't think they are that expensive.

Make sure all the idlers and adjusters are replaced of course.

Make sure you get the tensioner/idler changed too not just the belt but yeah waterpump and variator if fitted probably a good idea.

Most 1.6 do have a variator, only the 105bhp doesn't. If it's on 47k miles you probably should get variator changed if it does have one as sods law it will go soon after you do the belts if you don't and I wouldn't have thought it would last to 83k if you leave it another 36k when the belts will be due again. Might as well get the water pump as well as there is no extra labour. The tensioner and idler are musts too.

The TS water pumps are usually pretty reliable. It's a £35 option, but I wouldn't consider it until at least double that mileage.
