Hi Im maggie and this is my first time on this site.. I have an Alfa romeo 147 spark 2002 My boot does open with key fobe every time and iam unable to open it with the internal botton either, there is no other way of opening with the key as there is no keyhole under the badge...Help the weekly shop is becoming a nightmare!!!
I took it to my mechanic and he had a look at it added some wd40 and gave it a bit of a wipe, and it opened the once then we kept testing it, and you could hear the the mechanism working but it was getting weaker as we kept testing it and inevitably it stopped working all together, once we left for a few minutes you could hear the mechanism had got stronger then again after each time it became weaker again, does this help lol
Also try uncrewing the rubber bungs on each side
of the bottom of the hatch by 1/2 a turn.
If they aren't already unscrewed a bit, in which case
try screwing them back in gently.
Otherwise it may be the unit that needs replacing.
Try a thread search as others have had this.
Its worth trying greasing as you say. If you can rotate the latching fork with the shaft of a screwdriver with the hatch raised and apply the grease again it might distribute the grease better. But remember to unlatch it again before slamming the hatch. There's a small manual unlocking pawl to the right side of the latch.
Failing all that a replacement actuator looks likely, as the plastic parts are probably worn.
It doesnt seem to be any any worse with the engine off, also the on board computer is telling me that the hatch is open when it clearly isnt,.. Is a replacement actuator expensive?
The 'hatch open' warning and the boot light are controlled by the boot latch as well.
edit: A switch on the latch triggers the 'Boot Open' signal. Connecter 2a.
Connector 2b is the geared motor actuator connection.
I think you need someone to remove the inner trim and look at the latch, switch and actuator to see what is actually damaged. If the motor stills works (however slowly) it could still be a fault with friction in the latch or the switch restricting the latch.
If you read the above link there's the e-mail address for dan@autolusso.co.uk who may have reclaimed parts if you don't want Main Dealer costs.
Please do Maggie, any information about what's wrong could help someone and with it sorted it should save juggling with your shopping anyway.
Hope it all goes well and good luck.
I hope your Alfa will redeem itself and you will be pleased with it once again.
Do continue to visit AO as much as you can, its not just for problems.
