I currently have a lowly Blaupunkt Lausanne CD32 and standard speakers in my 2000MY 156 Sportwagon. Now I like my hi-fi (home setup is Arcam CD82, Arcam ***** 8p, Arcam P75+, Project Debut II, £400 of Mains conditioner and MS906 speakers, treble powered by the 8p and bass from the P75+..... You get the idea
Anyway, am fed up with the woolly mess of audio mediocrity in my car and could do with some suggestions. If I were to budget £500 in total, how should I spend it?
I've toyed with the following:
option 1. Keep head unit, purchase Focal component speakers and appropriate amp, fit some additional soundproofing/damping such as dynomat to doors and boot sides (most road noise on the JTD seems to come from the rear)
option 2. New head unit (but which one?), infinity speakers (front only), amp and no soundproofing.
option 3. Give up.
One point on the headunit. I would prefer it not to look like a tarts boudoir when it's switched on (so no stupid graphics and gaudy colours). An amber or red display is preferred and it should look suitably understated when set into a carbon dash.
Go for it!
I expect to hear from jomor in about 30 seconds.....
