156 drinking it's oil?

Hi all, hoping you can help a newbie with not much mechanical nouse!

Picked up my 04 156 2.0 jts about a month ago, all is wonderful, drives beautifully and seems like a fab car for the 3k I paid. Had been serviced and Mot'd for menby the dealer I bought it from, but I never checked the oil level.

After about 3-400 miles I got the low oil warning, checked the dipstick, which came out clean, was hours from home so popped into halfrauds and naught 2l of what hey recommended- which I put straight in (irritatingly can't remember the grade it was).

All ran beautifully until tonight when I got the warning again and again the dipstick comes out clean, only 400 miles later.

So my question is, even if the grade o oil wasn't 10w60 (which I now believe is right for the engine) could/should it have burnt 2 litres to one tank of fuel when it seems to have Ben running perfectly? Suggestions for next steps welcomed!

If you keep running the engine until the light comes on you will almost certainly destroy your engine. Check the oil weekly and always keep topped up to the max mark Alfa state that oil consumption of up to 1ltr to every 1000km or 625 miles is acceptable. So 2ltr in 400 mile indicates there is a problem that needs looking into

Seems to be a little high...it fact I'm surprised that if it is burning that amount of oil you haven't noticed the big cloud of blue smoke coming out of the back!

Sorry - Not got anything very constructive to say

seems like very alot of oil to use try asking for your money back mate, I've heard the ts's use a bit of oil but I'd say thats too much! aside from that check for leaks/white smoke out the exhaust/and that the windscreen washer isnt full of castrol;-) the oil has to go somewhere, right?

Get the oil changed to the correct spec (so you know what's in there) and keep it topped up.
