Weird Temperature Readings
1. Cold start up and engine temperature climbs to just over 90 (according to in cab gauge).
2. Temperature drops drastically to 75 degrees then climbs back to 90.
3. Step 2 is repeated over and over again.
I know the thermostat must be kicking in due to the temperature dropping but this is the first time it has done this. It usually stays just below the 90 mark and drops to about 80 or so on the motorway. It was cold this morning, more than usual but this is the first time I have noticed this behavior.
Is this normal behavior or is the sender faulty or thermostat sticking. I cant see the thermostat sticking due to the temperature rising then falling again, indicating it is opening as it should.
My car is a 2000 plate 156 2.0TS and any insight into this wacky behavior would be appreciated.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the water pump has been replaced in the last 6 months so cant see it being that.
