147tsSelespeed Oil use following engine re-build
The 147 I bought with 87.000 on the clock in 8/2006 used 1ltr Selenia 10W50 in 750Km yet blew no smoke.
I was repeatedly told by AR technicians that all Alfas are required, by design, to use some oil, like .5 ltr in 2000kms. Nearly 3ltr in 2.000km is food for insanity! Hence I submitted the vehicle to AR this September @202,000kms to a full engine overhaul fitting an oil ring of a different type as used in the 1.8 Holden Astra (OPEL). I've owned one of these 2002 built cars from new, its done 160,000kms and NEVER has it needed a drop of oil between services so I was confident that this solution propsed by AR should work for the Alfa.
Have just completed 2000ks of carefully brisk highway driving, only to find the oil level has dropped below the bottom mark leaving merely 10 mil on the world's most watched dipstick. Now I feel like one! That is 1.5 litres... my dis-appointment is palpable. I did not agree that that the use of Selenia 10W50 was the right choice my gut saying such a high quality lubricant would prevent proper bedding in of the new rings... and now I fear I have been proved correct. What the heck is going on?
The other cause may be a fault in the induction system where re-invigorated suction is drawing oil as well as the normal gases and condensation recirculated from the crankcase and burned.
Can someone please enlighten me? Finally I don't have any Selenia 10W50 where I live to top up with, only Castrol. Which one will mix or can I use GTX2 from prior to the rebuild?
